The grant will focus direct services on and follow all Nogales High School, Rio Rico High School, Pinnacle High School, and Pimeria Alta Academy students of the Class of 2011, through their Middle and High School years supporting them in their academic venture, helping them to properly prepare for, attend, and succeed in post-secondary education such as College, Trade Schools, or the Military.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Our mission is to provide academic support and parent and community involvement strategies to best prepare students to pursue and succeed in postsecondary education.
HOW WILL THIS MISSION BE ACCOMPLISHED?
Aprendiendo Por Vida GEAR UP will pursue its mission through three levels of interventions:
Academic interventions directly to the youth through after school and summer classes, tutoring, enrichment courses and programs, assistance by Student Intervention Teams, and academic planning. Academic interventions also address educational reforms by improving the quality of instruction, mapping curriculum, and increasing the number of college prep courses.
Character, Personal Responsibility, & Citizenship Development through increased counseling and counselor training, implementing Character Counts, developing youth leadership & mentoring programs, providing college awareness & visits to local campuses, as well as financial planning.
Family, Community & Business Interventions through neighborhood coffees, parent meetings, community newsletters, adult literacy/ESL, parent and volunteer training, career awareness (including job shadowing and internships), college awareness and financial assistance.
Aprendiendo Por Vida GEAR UP commits to a continuous improvement approach to evaluation that is aligned with the intent of the National GEAR UP program goals and objectives.
